What's the difference between Collagen and Protein?

Article title image

To explain the difference, it’s important to note that one isn’t necessarily better for you than the other, rather they serve different purposes in the body.

Organic Pea Protein and Pure Native WPI are complete proteins that are great for body shaping + weight management, sports performance + recovery as they are high in essential branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Organic Pea Protein and Pure Native WPI will also stablise blood sugars and keep you fuller for longer making it ideal for weight management programs.

Marine Collagen Protein, uniquely, is high in three amino acids that are naturally lacking in plant and whey based proteins. Studies show that Marine Collagen Protein also has gut health and anti-ageing benefits which can renew the skin, making it firmer and more hydrated.

For optimal benefits, I like to combine my Organic Pea Protein or Pure Native WPI with my Wild-Caught Pure Marine Collagen as it makes the perfect balance to support overall wellbeing.

For optimal health I recommend including a complete protein in your diet like my Organic Pea Protein or Pure Native WPI in addition to a collagen protein - my Wild-Caught Pure Marine Collagen is the perfect source.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. Collagen is the substance that holds the body together, and is found in our bones, muscles, skin, and tendons. However, after the age of 25 our collagen production begins to decline. This is why a collagen supplement is essential to helping keep your skin firm, your hair and nails strong, and your bones and joints healthy.

What is a complete protein?

The term ‘complete protein’ refers to amino acids - the building blocks of protein. There are 20 different amino acids that can form a protein, of these there are 9 that the body can’t produce on its own - these are called essential amino acids, and we need to get them through the foods we eat.

Healthy Chef Organic Pea Protein and Pure Native WPI contain all nine essential amino acids so they are considered a complete protein.

What's the difference between Organic Pea Protein and Pure Native WPI?

The main difference between these two proteins is that Organic Pea Protein is a vegan, plant-based protein, whereas Pure Native WPI is sourced from biodynamic grass fed dairy. They are both high in protein, low carb, non bloating and purely delicious, so choosing which protein is best for you depends on your preferences, taste, ethics and beliefs. I personally rotate between Organic Pea Protein and Pure Native WPI for variety.

Can I use Marine Collagen with Organic Pea Protein or Pure Native WPI?

Yes! To get all the wonderful health benefits of Marine Collagen and Healthy Chef Protein I love to combine one serve of each in my breakfast smoothie. Alternatively, I'll add Marine Collagen to a nourishing soup or my morning Matcha Latte as it is soluble in both hot and cold liquids!
