What I Eat For Perfect Digestive Health

Article title image

We’re well into spring, and many of us have goals to improve our health + wellbeing in some way or another – but did you know that all good health starts by having a healthy digestive system?

Nutritional medicine places a great emphasis on the digestive tract — the primary area where we receive the goodness from the foods that we consume.

A healthy digestive system means you’re able to effectively break down and absorb food, fuelling it with the nutrients it needs to function optimally.

I believe that food is most healing to the gut when it is close to it’s original state and has the properties to nourish and repair. I encourage you to discover the benefits of my Perfect Digestive Health eating plan as it shows you the best foods, healing recipes and best supplements and lifestyle secrets to support optimum digestion.

Read on for my “day on a plate” on my Perfect Digestive Health plan:

ON RISING: Wheatgrass juice

Wheatgrass juice is one of the most nutritionally dense greens on earth. Power-packed with natural whole food nutrients, it naturally supports detoxification pathways, digestion and skin vitality, to have you bursting with energy and glowing from the inside out. All you need to do for your daily dose is to add 1 teaspoon of Healthy Chef Organic Wheatgrass powder into 1 glass cold filtered water + a splash of fresh lemon juice. Shake to mix well and enjoy straight away.

BREAKFAST: Chia Coconut Pudding with Passionfruit

This tropical pudding is packed with soluble and insoluble fibre to help maintain and lower cholesterol as well as support digestive health. Chia is also high in plant based omega 3. The addition of Healthy Chef Protein (WPI + Organic Pea) is kind to your digestive system, so it won’t cause gastrointestinal distress. Your body needs protein to help repair tissue, to support your immune system and metabolism, and to sustain lean muscle. WATCH HOW TO MAKE CHIA COCONUT PUDDING in my Instagram video below!

MID-MORNING: Matcha Tea + a handful of macadamia nuts

Ceremonial Grade Matcha Tea is the finest grade of green tea available. It’s a potent superfood powder obtained by gently milling green tea leaves into a pure fine powder. All I do is add ¼ teaspoon of Healthy Chef Ceremonial Grade Matcha Green Tea with hot water.

Studies have shown Matcha has the ability to boost your immunity, control your stress and assist in gentle weight loss! I pair this with a handful of anti-inflammatory macadamia nuts for a deliciously good superfood snack.

LUNCH: Kale + Spinach Detox Salad

Green superfoods such as kale and spinach help to increase alkalinity and detoxification in your body that can promote healing.

They are also rich in vitamins A, C and K and folic acid, as well as calcium, potassium, copper and iron. These nutrients are necessary for healthy bones, skin and eyes.  Orange is a great source of vitamin C and fibre that can nourish your immune system as well as aid iron absorption from the green super foods. Garlic, turmeric and ginger also help to stimulate the circulation, reduce inflammation and aid digestion and elimination.

AFTERNOON: Goodness Shake

This shake is pure liquid nourishment. A delicious protein-filled drink, you can easily incorporate into your daily diet. Protein will help support recovery, detoxification and nourish your immune system. I’ve including Healthy Chef protein (both pea or WPI are great) because they are both isolates and specifically designed for people with gastrointestinal issues. All I do is blend 1 ½ cups filtered water or nut milk with 2 tablespoons Healthy Chef protein (Pure Native WPI or Organic Pea Protein) for pure protein goodness.

DINNER: Zucchini Fritters

I absolutely love this recipe, not only because it tastes so good, but because I can instantly feel the goodness and the benefit to my body. Studies show that the health benefits from following a diet that focuses on a daily intake of vegetables include weight loss; diabetes control; lowered insulin secretion; improved sports performance; and reduced risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and cancer.  These veggies act like pre-biotic in the digestive system that help to stimulate the favourable growth and activity of the good probiotic bacteria.

EVENING: Relax + Renew Tea

After a long day and hectic schedule I love nothing more than to unwind with a good cup of tea. This is the very reason why I absolutely love Healthy Chef Relax + Renew. Drinking this tea helps reduce stress, calms the nerves and promotes a good night’s sleep.
