What's great about it

Here's a delicious way to make your own protein balls that are made from completely natural ingredients and free from the processed sugars and preservatives found in many store-bought versions. I love making them in individual jars so I can easily whip up a batch with ease and they look so attractive that I'm always making them for friends and special occasions because they look and taste so good! I vary the ingredients based on what I want to create, altering the nutritional content and the flavour profile to be unique. 


Makes 16 balls


1/4 cup Healthy Chef Protein

1/4 cup organic desiccated coconut

1/4 cup Naked Chocolat

1/4 cup raw cacao nibs

1/4  cup roasted hazelnuts

1/2 cup almonds

12 fresh pitted dates

To Mix

2 tablespoons organic coconut oil

1 tablespoon water

extra coconut for rolling


Layer protein, coconut, chocolat, cacao nibs, hazelnut, almonds and dates in that order in a large 500 ml (17 oz) glass jar.

Store covered in the fridge until you're ready to make your protein balls.

  1. To make the balls:
  2. Tip out the contents of the jar into a food processor.
  3. Blend until the mixture looks like chocolate crumbs.
  4. Add coconut oil and water.
  5. Process again until soft and combined.
  6. Shape into balls using an ice cream scoop or spoon.
  7. Roll in coconut and allow them to set in the fridge for 1 hour before eating.

Notes and Inspiration

Add 1 teaspoon Matcha or Superfood for boosted antioxidants. You can also make a yummy superfood smoothie by combining 2 protein balls with 1 cup of almond milk and  a frozen banana. To make this DIY protein ball mix you just lay the measured amount of ingredients into a 500 ml glass storage jar. These taste like a bounty bar and make a quick high energy portable breakfast or lunch for hardcore movers and shakers. They also make a quick healthy recovery snack after exercise and are loaded with around 10g of protein per serve.
