SICILIAN HOT CHOCOLATE
What's great about it
Featured in my latest cookbook, SIMPLE HEALTHY RECIPES, my Sicilian Hot Chocolate is a must-try sweet treat. Unlike the usual hot chocolate, which is often quite liquid, this hot chocolate has a much thicker and creamier consistency. Using Healthy Chef Naked Chocolat also gives this the most delicious base. Indulge in the velvety texture and rich chocolate flavour the next time you are craving something sweet.
Ingredients
Serves 2.
250 ml (1 cup/8 fl oz) milk of choice
250 ml (1 cup/8 fl oz) filtered water
2 tablespoons unsweetened dark cocoa powder OR Healthy Chef Naked Chocolat Dark
1 tablespoon cornflour or tapioca starch
1–2 tablespoons coconut sugar, maple syrup, raw honey or monk fruit sweetener, as desired
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
30 g (1 oz) 70% dark chocolate couverture
EMBELLISHMENTS
Top with frothed milk and dust with cocoa powder.
Method
COMBINE milk, water, cocoa powder, coconut sugar, cornstarch and vanilla in a small saucepan.
HEAT over a gentle heat, slowly whisking until just boiled and slightly thickened, then remove from the heat.
ADD the chocolate couverture and whisk it in until it disperses through the hot milk.
SERVE immediately and enjoy.
