The microbiome and bowel regularity
The microbiome is the body’s community of microbes that mostly resides within the gut, and the more strains of good bacteria within it, the more robust the microbiome. That’s where probiotics come in: it’s important to feed the gut with the right probiotic strains so that the beneficial microbes outweigh the bad. When this right balance has been achieved, the gut and bowel can function just as they should.
Healthy Chef Probiotic + Prebiotic contains three strains of probiotics. This includes of two strains of Lactobacillus: rhamnosus and gasseri, which are a group of probiotics that produce lactic acid that can improve digestive health by maintaining the lining of the stomach, as well as reduce constipation.
The third strain is Bacillus Coagulans: a unique strain that not only produces lactic acid as well, but can also withstand the effects of stomach acid so that it actually reaches the gut. Studies have shown that this strain in particular can promote healthy bowel movements to avoid constipation.
The potency of a probiotic can be measured in CFU, which stands for colony forming units. It’s recommended for probiotics to offer anywhere from 1 to 10 billion CFU to be effective. Healthy Chef Probiotic + Prebiotic provides 7.5 billion CFU per serve, and as it’s recommended to take twice a day, offers up to 15 billion CFU each day.
Low FODMAP Prebiotic
While taking probiotics is a great start to restoring balance within the microbiome, to really foster these strains it’s important to also take prebiotics. Prebiotics help to feed and foster the growth of healthy bacteria, and they create an environment where the probiotics consumed can thrive.

Specifically, many prebiotics are types of oligosaccharides, which is what the ‘O’ in FODMAP stands for.
