Fight The Cold Naturally

Article title image

When I’m a little stressed and run down, my immune system gets a little hammered, so I make a conscious effort to avoid getting sick with immune boosting foods and nutrients.

Food is one of the most powerful tools we have to help prevent disease and a healthy body begins with a healthy immune system. Over 70% of your immune system resides in your gut and what you eat forms the foundation of your health. If it’s not supported with the right foods, it becomes more susceptible to illness and disease.

I make sure that I’m getting my daily dose of fresh fruits, vegetables and quality protein every day, as well as boosting my intake of ProteinOrganic Superfood Antioxidant and Natural Immune Support that's rich in immune boosting wholefoods vitamin C + D and quickly absorbed by the body.

Here are my top five foods to fight the cold naturally:

1. IMMUNE BOOSTING CHICKEN SOUP

When I was a little, my great Aunt used to make this amazing Polish chicken soup called Rosól to help fight a cold or flu. It was amazing and you could instantly feel it’s healing effects with every mouthful. With a few tweaks to her original recipe, the ingredients in my chicken soup have been specifically selected to increase the amount of immune-boosting nutrients. The quality protein from chicken in this recipe helps build a strong immune system.

Research studies have shown that deficiency of high-quality protein can result in depletion of immune cells, inability of the body to make antibodies, and other immune-related problems.

I've also included loads of garlic, turmeric and ginger in this recipe - potent detoxifying and antiviral herbs to help the body get rid of toxins, stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, aid digestion and boost your immune system. I’ve also added coriander which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help fight disease.

2. SUPERFOODS

Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to eat all the servings of fruits + vegetables I'd like, so I make sure I take my Organic Superfood Antioxidant blend in my smoothies or on it’s own with water. Just one serve provides 30% of the recommended daily requirements of fruit + vegetables. This means it’s high in antioxidants from pure wholefoods that can quickly be absorbed by the body - especially good when your immune system is compromised.

3. LEMON AND GINGER TEA

I love to sip on my Gingersnap + Lemon Tea as it’s a potent mix of ingredients that helps boost your immune system. This is because lemon adds a lovely freshness and helps with the detoxification process, while ginger is a powerful antiviral herb that helps the body get rid of toxins, stimulate circulation and boost your immune system. Forget the tea bags, use the real deal and make this wonderful lemon and gingersnap tea yourself from scratch. I brew up a large tea pot and allow the flavours to infuse for at least 5 minutes, then sip slowly and allow the natural properties to infuse into my body.

4. IMMUNE SUPPORT

Made from whole foods, rich in vitamin C + D and loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients to boost your immune system.

Natural Immune Support is like my rescue remedy that I mix with water or throw into a smoothie or cold pressed juice. Just one teaspoon of Natural Immune Support contains ten times the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C and the full-recommended daily intake of vitamin D that helps boost immune function and immune health.

5. MATCHA TEA

Matcha tea is my coffee alternative when I need more of a health kick than a caffeine hit. Matcha is finely ground green tea that is high in antioxidants to support overall health, energy + vitality. The health benefits of matcha tea are incredible – one bowl of matcha tea is equivalent to 10 cups of green tea – it’s a powerful, green tonic to revitalize the body and mind. When buying matcha make sure it's the best quality you can get. Choose Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha that comes from pristine sources.
